Migrant Claims He Was Paid $200 To Recruit Others For ‘Perla’ In Martha’s Vineyard Stunt

A migrant claims to have been paid $200 in cash by a mysterious woman named “Perla” to recruit people from a Texas migrant resource center to board a plane to Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis claimed responsibility for two flights that transported about 50 undocumented immigrants to the luxurious island of Massachusetts as part of what the Republican official called “a relocation program to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations.” It follows similar schemes created by other conservative governors in Texas and Arizona to transfer migrants to Democratic-controlled areas in the North in protest of the Biden administration’s border policies.

It appears that local Martha’s Vineyard officials were not given advance notice of the migrants’ arrival. On Thursday, the Dukes County Emergency Management Association tweeted that the “unexpected urgent humanitarian situation” necessitated the opening of emergency shelters on Martha’s Vineyard.

And curious details are starting to emerge about how the migrants arrived on the planes, with various media outlets reporting that people on the planes were misled about their prospects when they arrived.

A 27-year-old Venezuelan migrant even claims to have received money from a mysterious figure to find people outside the San Antonio Immigrant Resource Center to board one of the flights.

The man who simply called himself Emmanuel told the San Antonio Report that a woman known to him only as “Perla” said she wanted to take the migrants to “sanctuary states” where more government support would be available to them.

“Perla informed me that in these sanctuary states, the state has the benefits of helping migrants,” Emmanuel told the agency, explaining that he gave Perla the contact information of about 10 other migrants. “I just became the mediator because I like helping people.”

He added that Perla – who told him she was not involved in organizing the flights and simply wanted to help people – said that the money she offered to pay Emmanuel to find others came from an “anonymous benefactor” who was also funding the flights. flights.

A separate report on Gazeta do Vineyard included reference to an unidentified migrant saying he had been recruited by a person named Perla to go to Massachusetts despite having an immigration court in Los Angeles next week. “I think this is all a ploy to make us miss court dates so we get in trouble with the law and they can deport us,” said the unidentified immigrant.

Another person moved to Martha’s Vineyard, calling himself Luis, he told Reuters that someone named Perla approached them and their family outside the San Antonio immigration center. Luis said Perla put them up at a hotel, but he didn’t say his last name or any affiliation, and asked them to sign a disclaimer.

Separately, Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Thursday sent two buses full of immigrants to be dropped off near Vice President Kamala Harris’ official residence in Washington, D.C.

“Republicans are playing politics with human beings, using them as props,” President Biden said at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Gala Thursday night. “What they’re doing is just wrong.”
