Mass fire hits Changsha China Telecom office building

Terrifying footage shows dozens of stories of a skyscraper office building engulfed in flames during a catastrophic fire in China on Friday afternoon.

China Telecom’s 200-meter building in Changsha, capital of southern Hunan province, “burned with great intensity,” state broadcaster CCTV said. Videos of the fire shared online showed huge clouds of thick black smoke rising into the sky as flames appeared to erupt from nearly the entire height of the building.

State media said the fire had been extinguished, according to Reuters. The Hunan fire department said no casualties were found, Singapore’s CNA news agency reported, adding that preliminary investigations suggested the 42-story tower’s outer wall caught fire.

A video shared on Twitter purporting to show the early stages of the fire showed people inside the building running for the exits.

In a statement posted on social media, China Telecom said, “At around 4:30 pm today, the fire at our communications tower No. 2 in Changsha was extinguished. No victims have yet been discovered and communications have not been cut.”
