Chance Greyson shocked the world on Thursday, September 22nd, when his comments in a Rolling Stone interview has been published. He called his old mentor elena degenerates “manipulative”, among other things, raising questions about how much The Ellen DeGeneres Show host really helped him or his music career in the long run.

Greyson was born in Texas and raised Catholic, and was just 12 years old when she starred in the widely publicized talk show, and she capitalized on that success in a movie called maybelline prince. Now 25, he sees his “big break” very differently. Here are five things to know about the singer who was thrust into the spotlight during an appearance on elena.

1. She went viral with a song by Lady Gaga

In 2010, Greyson chose to do Lady Gaga‘s “Paparazzi” at an Oklahoma school music festival, and it was big. A video of the monumentally talented young man playing the piano has gone viral with over 70 million views, and for good reason. Not only was the performance spectacular, but according to Rolling StoneIt was the first time he performed in front of a crowd. It certainly wouldn’t be the last, casting him in a dazzling spotlight and catching the attention of Ellen, who had invited him to her show in a week’s time.

2. He’s been dubbed the ‘next Justin Bieber’

A March 10, 2011 ABC report echoed the sentiments of fans everywhere with the headline: Greyson’s Opportunity: Next Justin bieber? For many, the answer was obvious. So, 13-year-old Chance boy band’s good looks, fair hair, and heartbreaking eyes were enough to prompt the question for months to come. “Stand back, Justin Bieber,” the report read. “There’s a new teen pop sensation on the rise.”

3. Living in Oklahoma

Oklahoma is where it all began, and Oklahoma is still home to the talented singer. According to Rolling Stone, stay with the producer Brett McLaughlin at his Hollywood Hills home when he visits Los Angeles, but he owns a house in Oklahoma. It’s also where he reportedly returned to when Ellen’s record label Once Eleven dropped him after his second album with her. Truth be told part 1did not perform well.

A friend from his past said that returning home to Oklahoma after his brush with stardom wasn’t easy for him. “When he came back, he was different”, childhood friend. Madeline Goedecke says: according to Rolling Stone. “You could tell it was hard for him to come back from all that.”

4. He attended the University of Tulsa

Greyson reportedly retired from music when he turned 18, trying his hand at college life. He enrolled at the nearby University of Tulsa, opting for a history course. He told RS that it was him figuratively giving the “middle finger to the industry”. He continued: “I was the one who said, ‘You could have an amazing artist on your hands, but fuck it.’ I’m not doing this anymore. I quit.'”

5. He has been nominated for several high-profile awards.

The musical powerhouse has not only created an impressive catalog of singles, music videos and studio albums, but has also been recognized for its accomplishments with formal honors. In 2010, he was nominated for Choice Web Star at the Teen Choice Awards, and in the same year he was also nominated for Icon of Tomorrow at the J-14 Teen Icon Awards. He won the Teen Pick: YouTube Artist Award at the Hollywood Teen TV Awards in 2010.

The accolades continued in 2011, most notably with a People’s Choice Award nomination for Favorite Viral Video Star. Between 2011 and 2013, the emerging talent won several awards, including Most Popular International New Artist of the Year at the 2012 MTV-CCTV Mandarin Music Awards.
