Claim 2 Mega Millions Prizes; 3rd biggest US lottery jackpot – ABC 6 News

CHICAGO (AP) – Two people wishing to remain anonymous claimed a $1.337 billion Mega Millions jackpot after a single ticket for the late July draw was sold in a Chicago suburb, and opted for a one-time payout of $1.337 billion. $780.5 million, lottery officials. said Wednesday.

The Illinois Lottery said the July 29 draw prize, the third-largest lottery jackpot in the country, was claimed by two people who agreed to split the prize if they won. The two, who followed the example of the vast majority of winners who chose to remain anonymous, had until September 27 to opt for the single payment, said Emilia Mazur, a spokeswoman for Camelot Illinois, the Illinois lottery’s private manager.

The Illinois Lottery said it could not share any information about the winners other than to say that they must absolutely be “over the moon” with their Mega Millions wins. Illinois is one of at least 16 states that allow winners to remain anonymous.

Lottery officials said the two people have been working with professional legal and financial advisors in recent weeks to help with the claims process — something experts recommend lottery winners do.

“These winners are now in the enviable position of deciding what to do with their newfound fortune,” said Harold Mays, Illinois lottery director.

According to, a jackpot winning ticket was purchased at a gas station and convenience store in Des Plaines.

The winning numbers were: 13-36-45-57-67, Mega Ball: 14.

The jackpot grew so much because no one had guessed the game’s six selected numbers since April 15th. That’s 29 consecutive draws without a jackpot winner. As no one has won the Mega Millions jackpot since the July 29 draw, the jackpot is now estimated at $301 million.
