A technology company with a remote workforce chose Charleston’s Upper Peninsula to build its corporate headquarters, where employees can come together and the company can grow.
Vistio’s four full-time employees, who live in Charleston, will work at headquarters. Others from the Chicago area, Denver, Salt Lake City and rural Texas will gather for company-wide meetings – the first later this month – at the new digs.
An office in Chicago will serve as an additional outpost.
Gregg Antenen, CEO of Vistio, cited Charleston’s growing technology community, access to talent, company culture and quality of life as key reasons for the decision to locate the company’s headquarters in Charleston.
The software provider is one of about 700 technology-oriented companies in the Charleston area.
“As Vistio continues to grow, we believe the technology-friendly environment and entrepreneurial spirit of the Charleston Tech Center make Charleston an ideal base for us to continue to develop innovative products and provide exceptional support to our customers,” said Antenen.
Vistio, a division of Faneuil Inc., a Hampton, Virginia-based provider of multi-channel customer service and other business processing solutions, has been helping to optimize contact centers for more than 20 years. Companies in the fields of transportation, healthcare, utilities and government use their apps.
While the company has no specific plans, it expects to add multiple sales, marketing and support roles in the future, said Jeff Vahrenwald, vice president of marketing.
The company is moving into three offices in a 92,000-square-foot building developed on land owned by the city by the nonprofit Charleston Digital Corridor in a public-private project with Iron Bridge Capital. The long-planned $54 million project was completed over a year ago in a once-industrialized area of the Upper Peninsula that has seen a number of tech employers set up shop in recent years.
In selecting the space, Vahrenwald said, “We feel that Charleston, and the Charleston Tech Center in particular, has a growing tech scene that we can nurture as well as benefit from the entrepreneurial spirit and large pool of talent that the Charleston area offers.” . has to offer.”
Ernest Andrade, director of the Charleston Digital Corridor, said he was “honored” that Vistio chose Charleston as the company’s headquarters.
