Camp with director Amanda Kramer on October 28

Camp is an acquired taste, but when it’s good, it’s so good. Case in point: Amanda Kramerin “please baby please”, fresh from its world premiere at Rotterdam International Film Festival earlier this year.

The new movie stars Andrea Riseborough and Harry Melling as a couple in 1950s Manhattan who witness a murder and become the obsession of a local shoe shine gang. And all the new attention opens up the couple’s sexual identities in unexpected ways…

Here’s the official synopsis of the film, courtesy of music box movies:

Suze and Arthur live a seemingly traditional lifestyle as the Lower East Side’s most bohemian Eisenhower-era couple. The duo’s cage is shaken when they encounter a sadistic gang of leather-clad shoe shiners known as The Young Gents. Suze and Arthur’s initial surge of fear evolves into a confusion of emotion and lust. This sudden exposure to flamboyant masculinity unlocks the realization that Suze is an aspiring leather dad who has mistaken herself for a housewife. Meanwhile, Arthur’s obsessive, perpetually sensitive gender issue is sidelined when young gentleman Teddy awakens a strange desire. PLEASE BABY PLEASE features a full spectrum of underground fetishism and seductive musical asides with guest appearances by Demi Moore and Cole School. Visionary filmmaker Amanda Kramer attributes the straight hellish landscape of the 1950s to a witty, syncopated riff that plays like a high camp emission of your wildest dreams – bathed in silk, sweat and bisexual lighting.

Alongside Risebourough and Melling, and guest appearances by Moore and Schools, “Please Baby Please” also stars Karl Glusman, Ryan Simpkins, Matt D’Elia, Karim Salehand Jake Choi. Jake Sidney Cohen, Jaz Sinclair, Ashbrook Backgroundand Mary Lynn Rajskub complete the main cast.

“Please Baby Please” is Kramer’s sequel to his 2018 film “ladyworld”, a female version of “lord of the flies.”

Variety called “Please Baby Please” “a mean stylization”west side history” through Kenneth Anger.” If that description doesn’t get camp fans excited about Kramer’s movie, what will? “Please Baby Please” hits theaters on October 28. Watch the trailer below.
