Cameron Diaz on his return to acting after 8 years of retirement

Actors have always retired and not retired. Daniel Day-Lewis and Audrey Hepburn come to mind when you think of actors who hung up on everything, only to return a few years later. But no one expected Cameron Diaz to retire initially, let alone return nearly a decade later.

After eight years away from the cameras, Diaz is expected to return in the next Netflix film back in action. She will co-star with Jamie Foxx in the film which sees Seth Gordon directing a screenplay by Brendan O’Brien.

This film marks his first role since 2014 annie, which also starred Foxx. She took a break from the spotlight, which she initially claimed was “tired of traveling to film”. The gap soon turned into an eight-year hiatus, which she initially said was her retirement from film.

In early 2022, Diaz was a big hit as a guest judge at the RuPaul’s Drag Race Race, which marked its first significant appearance in eight years. Soon after, it was confirmed that she would star in back in action. During a recent interview in tonight’s showDiaz talked about what drew her to this project and what it was like to get back into the groove of things.

“I was like, hey guys, what’s the title of this? and they were like back in action. I was like, oh! I can already feel very connected with this character… It’s a bit of muscle memory; Do you know what I mean? I’ve done this for so long; it’s like the process – I just went back to it. But it looks a little different,” says Diaz.

She adds that her co-star Jamie Foxx also played a major role in her comeback. The first two co-starred in 1999 Any Sundaythen returned to work on his last film before retiring in 2014 annie.

“The last film I made was annie with Jamie, so the first movie back is this movie with Jamie,” adds Diaz. She continues: “He’s so good, so easy, so professional, so talented. And just being able to work with him is going to be a lot of fun.”
