Brothers and Dogs Escape Murfreesboro, TN Home Fire

MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (WKRN) – A Murfreesboro family is homeless after their home caught fire Thursday afternoon.

Authorities said firefighters responded to the house located on the 5000 block of Roxbury Drive shortly before 3 pm. When teams arrived at the scene, they found smoke and flames coming from the second floor of the house, along with an 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old Sister who had escaped from the house prior to the teams’ arrival.

Firefighters were able to aggressively attack the fire and extinguish it quickly, officials said.

The 18-year-old man was taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation along with minor burns. His sister was not hurt. The brothers managed to get one of their dogs out of the burning house and firefighters were able to rescue another dog from the house. However, the family cat is still missing, officials said.

According to investigators, the house is not habitable and the Red Cross has been called to help the family. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
